The Salida Fire Department became fully operational in 1880 and became a full-time fire station on December 10, 1903. Today with 10 full-time employees and 6 reserve fighters, the fire department responds to approximately 800 calls per year regarding fire suppression and prevention, emergency medical response, technical rescue, and more. The station also is HazMat operational and is involved in public education. All firefighters of the Salida Fire Department must be certified in Firefighter 1, EMT B-IV, and HazMat Operation. The Salida Fire Department and the South Arkansas Fire Prevention District operate jointly through a contract.

Fees for Plan Review and Inspection:
Effective January 1, 2008, the City of Salida will collect fees for construction and subdivision projects requiring fire department review. These fees will be collected with each subdivision application or at the time of building permit submission for commercial and multi-family projects.

  • Fire Supression Systems (Sprinklers):
    Commercial and multi-family projects may require the installation of fire supression systems. Please contact the fire department for more information on whether your project will require sprinklers. All such systems must be reviewed, inspected and approved by the State of Colorado Department of Public Safety.
