Safe Outdoor Space (SOS) Location Provides Workforce with Temporary Housing Solution

SOS is a temporary solution to part of Salida’s housing crisis. While most SOS locations target the “chronically” homeless population, the new location at Centennial Park is meant to serve members of our local workforce employed for a minimum of 20 hours per week and who are unable to find housing due to the current lack of supply and high prices.

The SOS program is temporary and will provide overnight parking for up to 15 vehicles behind the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center from mid-June to October 31, 2022.

The City of Salida has partnered with Bringing Everyone Through the Crisis of Housing (BETCH) who will oversee administration of the program and those residing in the SOS location.

Participants will have to adhere to strict guidelines and commit to signing a Good Neighbor agreement. Eligible participants must:

  • Show proof of local employment
  • Show proof of motor vehicle insurance
  • Have a clean background check
  • Vaccinate pets and keep them leashed outside the vehicle
  • Agree to not use drugs, alcohol, tobacco or vaping on premises
  • Keep personal belongings inside the vehicle
  • Observe quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily
