Salida, CO — The City of Salida is providing an update on the ongoing CALCO project at 400 Railroad Avenue, including key milestones for environmental abatement and upcoming demolition activities.
The City has received an updated project schedule from the project team, indicating that asbestos abatement work is currently underway and is expected to continue through approximately July 13, 2026. During this phase, residents may observe scaffolding being relocated as crews transition between abatement areas.
In preparation for demolition, the project has progressed through multiple phases, including scaffold installation, containment measures, and environmental abatement within the mill structures. Current work also includes ongoing clearance activities and additional scaffold installation on the north phase of the site.
According to information provided by project contractors, heavy demolition is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of July 20, 2026, with crews mobilizing around that time. The largest structures on site are expected to be brought down within the first week of demolition activities.
Following demolition, work will continue with processing of metal and concrete materials, debris removal, and final site cleanup and restoration. Project completion is anticipated by mid-September 2026, though all dates remain subject to change.
To support safety and site security throughout the project, measures have been implemented including controlled access fencing and routing of electrical service through protective conduit to discourage tampering. The City is also coordinating with project partners and may work with local public safety agencies, if needed, to help ensure the public maintains a safe distance from active demolition areas.
The City of Salida remains committed to ensuring that demolition activities proceed safely and efficiently while minimizing impacts on the surrounding community. Residents are encouraged to remain aware of activity near the site and to follow all posted signage and guidance.
