The City of Salida Arts & Culture Department, in partnership with the Salida Arts & Culture Advisory Commission (ACAC), is seeking artist proposals for a new public art project that will bring creative mosaic installations to six large outdoor concrete planters along F Street in Salida's Creative District. The opportunity officially opens July 13, 2026, with applications due by 11:59 p.m. MDT on August 14, 2026.
Artists are invited to submit original mosaic, tile, or glass artwork concepts for one or more of the approximately 110-square-foot, multi-sided planters that serve as gathering spaces along Salida's primary downtown corridor. The project aims to celebrate Salida's unique culture, strengthen the Creative District, and create engaging visual experiences for residents and visitors alike.
Selected artists or artist-led teams will install their work directly onto existing planters with integrated seating, transforming these highly visible public spaces into vibrant works of art. Proposals will be evaluated based on artistic excellence, craftsmanship, relevant experience, and the creativity and originality of the proposed concept.
"Public art plays a vital role in shaping the identity and vibrancy of our community," said Diesel Post, Director of Arts, Parks, Recreation, and Culture for the City of Salida. "This project will create lasting artistic landmarks that reflect Salida's creative spirit while enhancing the downtown experience for everyone."
Artists must be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States, and have demonstrated experience completing projects of similar scope. Individual artists and artist teams are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to qualifying applicants based in the City of Salida and Chaffee County, in accordance with the project's procurement criteria.
Artwork submissions must be original and suitable for all ages. Proposals may not contain advertising, religious messaging, political partisanship, or content that is violent, sexual, or otherwise inappropriate for public spaces. Selected designs must be durable, weather-resistant, vandal-resistant, and integrated thoughtfully into the surrounding environment.
Applications will be accepted exclusively through the Creative West CaFÉ platform. Applications submitted by email will not be accepted. Interested artists can review complete project details and submit proposals through the application portal: Mosaic Art Pieces – Large Scale Outdoor Concrete Planters.
