Salary: Hiring range: $66,400 – $74,700, DOE

The Salida Fire Department is hiring a full-time Firefighter/EMT to join our all-hazards response team. This dynamic role involves fire suppression, emergency medical care, technical rescue, and public education in one of Colorado’s most vibrant and scenic mountain communities.
We're looking for individuals with courage, integrity, and grit to respond to emergencies, maintain readiness, and serve the public with professionalism and respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to structure fires, wildfires, vehicle accidents, and EMS calls
- Provide EMT-level patient care and basic life support
- Conduct specialized rescues (hazmat, high-angle, water, confined space)
- Maintain and inspect fire apparatus, equipment, and PPE
- Participate in fire prevention efforts and public outreach
- Complete accurate reports and documentation
Minimum Qualifications
- 18+ years old with a high school diploma or GED
- Valid Colorado driver’s license (good driving record)
- Firefighter I certification (Colorado, IFSAC, or ProBoard)
- EMT-B (Colorado or NREMT with CO reciprocity)
- CPR and Hazmat Ops certified
- Valid CPAT
- NWCG Wildland FF Type 2 (preferred or within 1 year)
- Must pass background, medical, drug screen, and physical fitness test
- Must reside within 30 minutes of Salida or South Arkansas Fire Protection District within 3 months of completing probation.
