Head Coach Expectations:
Head coaches are expected to attend as many practices and games as possible. They lead the team during practices and games, and while they usually have experience in the sport, it’s not required. Head coaches are supported by assistant coaches. All coaches will receive training and must complete the following steps:
- Pass a background check
- Fill out the "sign up to coach" online form
- Complete a volunteer interview
- Attend coaches training (online and in-person both available)
- Complete the online coaches training through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS)
Assistant Coach Expectations:
Assistant coaches have the same requirements as head coaches that are listed above, but their main role is to assist, not lead practices or games. They help with anything the head coach needs, ensuring the program runs smoothly. Assistant coaches must also complete the same requirements as head coaches.
- Pass a background check
- Fill out the "sign up to coach" online form
- Complete a volunteer interview
- Attend coaches training (online and in-person both available)
- Complete the online coaches training through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS)
Perks
As a thank you for coaching, both head coaches and assistant coaches will receive free registration for one child. If they do not have a child in the league, they will receive a credit for the equivalent cost, which can be used for other parks and recreation programs and events.
